The 8 Types Of Fun

1. Sensation

A game which immerses you in the emotions of the game and touches your senses to make you feel emotional. For example, horror games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill incorporate sensation.

2. Fantasy

Fantasy games often seek power and allows for the player(s) to feel things that they often cannot in real life, for example games like Elder Scrolls and World Of Warcraft create this.

Don't Starve

Don't Starve and Don't Starve Together are games in the same franchise but Don't Starve Together features multiplayer. It takes place in a fantasy world where anything could happen.

3. Narrative

Games in the Telltale franchise use narrative to build a story and immerse the player by allowing for game changing choices to be made.

Batman: The Telltale Series

You could take pretty much any Telltale game and put it in this category because that's what these games are made for, they create a real narrative and it allows the player to really immerse themselves within the world of the game.

4. Challenge

Challenge games often create puzzles for the player to overcome which will allow the player to progress in the game, this creates excitement for the player when they complete a puzzle which gives them satisfaction. For example games like Portal and Lemmings.

Unravel

Unravel is a puzzle game featuring a co-op multiplayer mode where you work together playing as a character made of wool to overcome sections of the game for example by using your wool to swing from tree branches.

5. Discovery

Games which not only allow for the player to discover things within the game, but also about themselves creates a great deal of enjoyment for the player and leaves them feeling excited to know that they learnt something new. For example, games like The Secret Of Monkey Island and Life is Strange both feature discovery.

Grim Fandango

Grim Fandango is a story based game set in a world giving a life to people who have previously died in the real world. It allows players to make choices which may relate to themselves.

6. Expression

Games that allow for the players creativity to really spring out and it allows the player to enjoy being able to create what they want, it may not be at all possible in real life, but these games allows the impossible. For example, Minecraft and The Sims.

Cities Skylines

Cities Skylines allows you to create entire cities and countries with your own creativity allowing you to express your imagination to create something beautiful.

7. Submission

Most games have some sort of submissive elements and are quite basic, they don't necessarily require your full attention but if you want to, you could put so much time into the games. For example, most free online game sites contain mostly submissive elements.

Stardew Valley

Stardew valley is mostly just the same as any other topdown, tile based game which doesn't take much skill or knowledge and is just there for people to enjoy themselves.

8. Fellowship

More and more games are doing this, allowing you to play not just on your own, but also with all your friends or even with other people from all over the world! Party games and MMO's are a great example of fellowship. For example, The Elder Scrolls and Runescape.
